Respected citizenry, elders & youngsters!
यस्मिन् जीवति जीवन्ति बहवः स तु जीवति ।
काकोअपि किं न कुरूते चञ्च्वा स्वोदरपूरणम् ।।
(His life is well lived who makes a positive impact on many lives. Even a crow can use its beak to fill its own stomach).
When I look back at my journey of life so far, I find it worth living notwithstanding its imperfections. I was born in 1988. Parents separated while I was too young. Most of the childhood spent in Haryana. Being a single parent, my mother was quite protective about me. She did not let me go to school once she heard that two girls had been abducted from my school. Thus, I began to help my mother in her household chores and her small business of waste management. It was at this very tender age that I was exposed to entrepreneurship. This experience came handy when I ran my own fashion boutique later.
I was barely 15 when I returned to Mumbai in search of my Parsi father. To survive I had to do many odd jobs including that of a police informer. In lieu of food and shelter, I had to do household chores in the landlady’s house till I got some decent standing in the Maximum City. Later on I worked as a part time fashion designer for export quality lady garments.
Helping people comes naturally to me. I have helped people sometimes by going beyond my limits and even when it had dire consequences. I have rescued many men and women from exploitations. There was a lonely very old man in my neighbourhood with whom I would spend sometime. Once I had to go to Delhi for some work and when I returned to Mumbai I learned that he had died probably of hunger. It made me depressed and this sense of guilt led me to do something for the abject senior citizens who are old, abandoned or neglected by the society at large.
A recent study also has found that doing something nice for others can immediately relieve sensations of physical and mental pain.
I beseech all of you, particularly those on whom the Almighty has bestowed wealth, strength and capacity, to give back to the society we are part of. Just remember. Many people are praying for the meagre things we take for granted.
Stay blessed!
